George
Gensic's artistic path has led him from Indiana metalmaster and artisan
sculptor to North Carolina portraiture and fine art painting. Always an
artist, George Gensic pursued art as an avocation while he owned and
operated a specialty fabrication shop in Indiana for nearly thirty
years. He attended isolated classes, workshops, and seminars but is
largely self-taught.
Gensic, as an
artisan, produced metal works that ranged from sculptures weighing
several tons to whimsical mobile-like “air riders” that fill
architectural spaces with color and motion. Gensic also produced art
furniture, wall hangings and specialty equipment for artists. Some of
these works are owned by Glenbrook Square, Fort Wayne, IN; The Honeywell
Center in Wabash, IN; Huntington College, Huntington, IN; The U.S. Army
Military Academy, West Point, NY; plus numerous churches, corporate
offices and private collections.
Gensic
recently moved his studio from his beautiful 125 acre nature preserve in
Indiana to picturesque North Carolina. His love of nature is reflected
in his landscape and wildlife work. Gensic’s most recent works are more
likely to reflect the vistas of the Carolinas, including seascapes. He
enjoys hopping on his motorcycle equipped with a box easel to head out
for a “plein aire ride”. He loves the challenge of working
outside, in the moment.
Gensic works
on several projects simultaneously, usually in more than one style. To
better husband his creativity energy he balances his slow, deliberate
work, like portraiture, with lighter more painterly projects and
high-energy palette knife work. Of ‘artistic voice’ Gensic remarks,
“even when an artistic voice is trained to sing out a portrait it may
still sometimes need to scream a thick impasto…or maybe sometimes just
chit-chat a friendly little still life.”
An award winning artist, Gensic's
works have been shown in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area galleries and
in numerous local, regional and national competitive exhibits.
George Gensic lives in Durham, NC.
He has been blessed with 5 daughters, 1 son, 5 grandchildren, and a few
international strays along the way. He currently shares life and
studio space with his wife, Trisha, and the last of his daughters,
Katrina and Najia.
